All finishes used on tableware are non-toxic and low or non-allergic. I use food-safe finishes such as Livos Kunos oil or Whittle wax, food safe oil based finishes or leave items unfinished. Chopping and herb boards (and if requested, salad servers) are usually unfinished.
Oil finishes polymerise after a few weeks of application. This means the finish is inert and will not react with the foods they contact or people using the utensils.
If you are preparing food for anyone with severe allergic responses, please check with them.
Never place wooden utensils or boards in a dishwasher. Wipe with a damp cloth after use, or wash and rinse. Make sure you wipe them dry with paper kitchen towels straight away.
The oils in your salad dressing should keep your salad servers oiled. Lightly wipe with either grapeseed or walnut oil if they need refinishing. Never use olive oil on kitchen or tableware - it doesn't dry, collects dust and dirt and will go rancid.
